CES confused

Props to Gia and the NBCU team at CES #thehub #NVCUCES is an awesome place to hang out and the NBCU booth is as always stunning. The cool peeps over at Jck Morton always do a brilliant job of building a booth that people want to hang out at. Nice job NBCU.

The one thing I am constantly mazed at when I come to CES is how confused all the content providers are about how to work with all the new technology companies that are here and finding new and amazing ways to get content out there, I mean every man and his dog has a new device, the advent of the tablet just makes it more imperative that content providers get over their fear of digital content and sharing it with a common sense distribution model that doesn't include selling your soul for access to it with the ultimate knowledge that you can't build a business model that works for you long term unless you're funded to the tune of $100 million or Apple.

It's all going to come to a head sooner or later given how easy the tech guys are making it to keep your device with you but the truth of it is that content providers have very little confidence in their own product, they aren't convinced that they actually have something that people want and so they need to find ways to recoup all production costs and make all the profit up front, that of course means all the distribution models have to include the production costs and profit for the content owners all up front in their business plan making it all but impossible to make money. It's a very insecure business model that the content owners operate and certainly not the collaborative approach they pretend to believe in. Truth is they are all still so pissed off with Apple that they take it out on everyone else.

Walking the floor here at #CES it becomes evident that if you have insane amounts of money then you're invited to talk but if you just have a good idea then it might take a little more persuasion. That's not pessimism it's just how it is.

The Tablet

I am loving how many cool tablets there are here at CES, the Lenovo has to be one of the best, I love that they skipped the Tablet part and went straight to a hybrid version that actually deals with the question of being  business user and liking Tablets. It's quite amusing to watch all the people walking around with an iPad and a laptop bag. We'll go into that later.
